Yes, you can still change your Medicare Advantage Plan after December 7th, but only under certain circumstances. Here are the key options and periods that allow changes after the Annual Election Period (AEP):

1. Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31)

This period is only for individuals “already” enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan and begins on January 1.

During this period you can switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan
or return to Original Medicare (Part A and Part B if eligible), and optionally enroll in a stand-alone Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Plan). Changes made during this period take effect on the first day of the following month, and you can only make one change during this period.

2. Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs)
You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you experience certain life events:

Moving out of your plan’s service area.
Losing other health coverage, such as employer or union coverage.
Your plan changes or terminates coverage (e.g., the Medicare Advantage plan leaves your area).
Qualifying for Extra Help to assist with prescription drug costs.
Enrolling in or switching to a 5-star rated Medicare Advantage Plan, which you can do once between December 8 and November 30 of the following year.

3. If You’re New to Medicare
If you just became eligible for Medicare, you have an Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which lasts for seven months (three months before, the month of, and three months after your 65th birthday or eligibility due to disability). You can join a Medicare Advantage Plan or make changes during this time.
